The Explorer

Ever since I read The Wolf Wilder, I have been on a quest to read all of Katherine’s books. This one keeps the streak intact.

I’d call this a historical fiction Hatchet if I had to compare it to something. At some point post WW2, four children are on an airplane that crashes in the Brazillian rainforest. The children survive and begin looking for help. They have some survival knowledge that sometimes helps and sometimes hinders their survival. They eventually find a man that they call The Explorer, a quirky, mysterious dude as one must be to live alone in the wilderness and he saves them. The four kids Fred, Con, Lila, and Max, are all kind of annoying (to be fair they did just crash in the jungle) but work together and stay friends after their ordeal. I’d hand this off to kids age 8 and up that like reading survival stories.

Verdict- Buy

Please note that I borrowed this book from my library without a review requirement or any influence regarding review content should I choose to post a review. Apart from that, I have no connection at all to either the author or the publisher of this book.
